From comet to eclipse to noctilucent cloud
There are a lot of images and some movies in my image gallery. Choose
any of the categories: comets, eclipse of the sun, eclipse of the
moon, or miscelaneous images (such as a rare noctilucent cloud) from
the links below. On special occations, such as eclipses of the sun
and moon, apparitions of comets like Hale-Bopp, Hyakutake and possibly
C1999 S4 (LINEAR), I take a lot of pictures. Some are shown here, but
I cannot begin to scan them all. Several of my astronomical images
have been printed in magazines, annual reports, and yes, Season's
greeting cards.
Movies
Movies are included as in-line movies in the form of Java scripts.
These movies are sequences of pictures of actual astronomical events.
I am working on a movie of the total eclipse of the moon in January
2000. The movie that you see below, shows the occultation of a star by
the moon. You can find the individual images under the link
"Other images" below.
The moon is so bright that the surface is over-exposed, but
I included a single frame which shows surface details on the moon.
The star is to the left of the moon, and appears to move to the right.
In reality, it was the moon that moved to the left due to its orbit
around the earth.
This animation shows the occultation of the star pi Sgr by the moon on July 26/27 1999. A sequence of images of this occasion can be found on this page.
